What is a photo dump?

A photo dump is a carousel of several photos posted together, usually straight from the camera roll: last weekend, a trip, a whole month in ten frames. It started on Instagram as the relaxed opposite of the single perfect post, and it works because it feels unplanned.

Unplanned is not the same as random, though. The dumps people save and send have a thread running through them, a good first slide and a rhythm from swipe to swipe. A photo dump maker is just the quickest way to get there: the layout is done, you bring the photos.

How to make a photo dump in 3 steps

  1. 1

Start from a template or a blank carousel

Open a photo dump template from the gallery, or start a carousel: one wide canvas of slides that exports as one image per slide. A carousel holds up to 5 photos on the free plan, 10 on Creator and 20 on Studio.

  2. 2

    Drop in your photos

Drag them in, paste them or pick them straight from your camera roll. Inside a photo slot each picture pans and zooms in its frame, and text, stickers, polaroid frames and filters go on top.

  3. 3

    Export and post

Export every slide in one go as PNG or JPG and post them in order as one carousel. On a phone the files land back in your camera roll. No export carries a watermark, on any plan.

What makes a photo dump look good

  • A thread. One month, one trip, one colour, one mood. Random photos read as random; a theme turns them into a post.
  • A strong first slide. It is the only one most people see in the feed, so lead with the photo that stops the scroll.
  • Rhythm. Alternate close-ups, wide shots, details and faces so every swipe shows something new.
  • One odd one out. A screenshot, a blurry shot, a receipt. That is what makes it a dump and not a portfolio.
  • An ending. Close on a photo that feels like a last line, not just the last file in the folder.
